A stage musical featuring music from Americana-Folk Rock band The Avett Brothers has finally made it to Broadway. Set to open Nov. 19 2024 at the Longacre Theatre, “Swept Away” tells a captivating story about an ill-fated yacht, The Mignonette, that shipwrecked off the coast of Massachusetts in 1888, and the four surviving souls cast adrift in a lifeboat.  For more details including an interview with Scott and Seth Avett, see the link below.

Mike Viola teamed up with John Oliver and Will Ferrell on a new song for Last Week Tonight, the late-night talk show hosted by John Oliver. Being a longtime fan of Viola, Oliver called on him to write a parody of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A." Viola's version aired this past Sunday with a performance by Ferrell. Darrell Scott and Jana Mila are this week's guests on the eTown Radio show! Between Darrell's "songwriting talents" and Jana's "eclecticism and honesty", they share a broad perspective on the singer-songwriter experience. Darrell released his new cover album The New Modern Hymns earlier this month and has continued his series New Moon New Music , where he tells the stories behind his songs and highlights other recent releases. Jana released her debut album Chameleon via New West Records in late August. She has been traveling around the U.S. on a radio tour, bringing us her new music all the way from Amsterdam. Lilly Hiatt is back with new music, starting with the release of "Shouldn't Be" earlier this week. This is the first single off her newly announced album Forever , set to release January 31st. "Shouldn't Be" is all about "standing in your truth." With eight additional tracks to come on Forever , she explains how these songs reflect her realization " that my life was passing me by, that the love I was living in required presence to accept. So I started doing the little things you have to do to show up for the people in your life: listen, grow, change. I learned to expand my world." The Avett Brothers have been added to the "Concert for Carolina" lineup, happening October 26th. They will be performing alongside artists from their home state of North Carolina, as well as others joining the efforts to support Carolina residents impacted by Hurricane Helene. The show will feature Luke Combs, Eric Church, Billy Strings, James Taylor, and more. Tickets to attend the show at Bank of America Stadium sold out instantly, therefore a livestream option has been added with tickets at $24.99 and additional donation options. Those affected by the hurricane can tune into the livestream for free. All proceeds will go to organizations supporting hurricane relief. Today brings us Darrell Scott 's new album The New Modern Hymns . The album features 13 covers, with songs by Bob Dylan , Paul Simon , Joni Mitchell , Leonard Cohen , Gordon Lightfoot , John Hartford , Guy Clark , Hoyt Axton, and more. These songs were originally released on Darrell's Modern Hymns album of 2007, but this is the first time they are available digitally. This reissued version adds a cover of Cat Stevens' "I Want To Live In A Wigwam," a song that has been missing since it was recorded in 2004. There is a stellar lineup of guest vocalists on this new album, including Del McCoury , Allison Krauss , The Fisk Jubilee Singers ,  Tim O’Brien , Mary Gauthier , John Cowan ,  Odessa Settles , Jonelle Mosser  and Kathy Chiavola. “ ‘The New Modern Hymns’ is a recording I am very proud of for the great songs, the great singers and musicians who helped make it so. In keeping with annual tradition, the trailblazing Americana outfit and their fans will return to their home state of North Carolina for a single-night bash, this time welcoming throwback country sister act The Castellows for support. The Avett Brothers’ 2024 sendoff will be staged at Charlotte, N.C.’s Bojangles Coliseum. Just over a week out from its Sept. 17 staging at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, the Carter Center has announced a massive lineup expansion for Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song. Today’s additions amplify an already stacked roster of performers set to turn out for the former president’s centenary, bringing the bill to a total of 15 musical acts and three special guest hosts. New entries to the program include Carlene Carter , among others. “I couldn’t be more delighted to have been asked to take part in this event honoring President Carter,” country icon Carter offers in a release. “When my mother, June Carter, and her husband, Johnny Cash, went to visit him at the White House, I was pretty jealous, as I thought so highly of him even back then. Both he and June had suggested more than once that we were, in fact, kin, and the fact that both he and mom had that Carter ‘sparkle’ makes me think that they were related. When Jimmy Carter was our president, it was evident to me that he only wanted the best for our country and for all humankind. This coming January, Peter Rowan will be honored as the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award. This recognition by Ireland's Folk Conference - Your Roots Are Showing - celebrates Peter's decades of influence on folk and bluegrass music. Peter will receive this award at the first annual Folk in Fusion concert on January 14th, where he will also be performing with Ron Block to help kick off the conference.
